Chapter 4:

The battle wasn't easy. Oh no… N was clearly an experienced trainer. Either that or he was just 'really' in touch with his Pokémon.  He and his Purrlion took her on in a Pokémon battle and defeated 2 out of all 3 of her friends. Joltik was first to go, since he had jumped off of her head as if determined to kick its furry little tail, but ended up fainting along with her Patrat, by the claws of the purple feline Pokémon.  But Snivy saved the day and performed the final blow; knocking N right off his feet.

Literally.

N sat on the ground holding the fainted Purrlion in his arms as Touko caught her breath. His hat, colored black and white, lay on the ground behind him since it had fallen off when Snivy practically threw the cat Pokémon at him. "As long as Pokémon are confined in pokéballs…Pokémon will never become perfect beings…" He seemed to mumble quietly to himself; causing her and Cheren to look at each other for a moment. "I have to change the world for Pokémon, because they're my friends…"His eyes were still somewhat emotionless, but the brunette trainer could see something there as he looked up at her slowly.

Holding her Joltik in her arms, Touko watched him get to his feet and pick up his hat with his only free hand since the other held the Purrlion. "Your Pokémon seem to like you…" He said quietly; putting it back on his green haired head before looking up into her eyes. "I'm surprised….I have not met anyone else like you…" There was a flash of a smile and he turned to walk away. "Fair well, Miss Touko…"

"B-Bye…?"

As soon as she spoke to him, N stopped and looked over his shoulder at her. "Treat them well…" He then asserted 'almost' kindly; receiving her nod as a response.  She thought for a moment, that he had smiled again in her direction. "Surely…we will cross paths again," The green haired boy spoke as he turned to walk away again, each step getting further and further from the two trainers with each step. "…I can just feel it…"

"He…didn't put the Purrlion back in its Pokéball…"

Touko glanced over to Cheren who had found himself a seat to watch back when the battle had first began. He was looking in the direction N had gone with somewhat of a perplexed expression, his glasses just on the bridge of his nose. "He…He didn't even go to the Pokémon center to help it…" He uttered out as he used his pointer finger to push the clear shades back up so they wouldn't fall off. "He's one to talk about being kind to Pokémon if he doesn't even treat them well—"

"I have a feeling…" Touko intervened, catching his full attention and causing him to look up at her. Her bright blue eyes moved into the direction the tall trainer went and she smiled softly, which definitely got Cheren to raise one of his brows.  "A feeling that he has his reasons…." She then told him. He got to his feet and walked closer to her, setting his hands in his pockets calmly.  "I can tell Cheren…" She looked down a little. "…He's a good guy."

"You only say that because he was polite…and you probably think he's cute."

Blushing slightly, Touko looked at him as he stubbornly glanced away from her. Then, catching on, the brunette smirked and with curiosity leaned towards him and nudged his arm with her elbow. There was a still silence as he began to look over at her, but the only thing he saw before looking away again was the movement of her eyebrows, wiggling, and her grin wide and perverted. Touko went to bother him more about it—obviously seeing he was jealous—but before she could, Bianca's voice was loud, clear and getting closer by the second.

"Hey!!" She called; waving her hands around as she approached them, from the direction of the pokécenter. Touko turned around to face her as she pulled out some sandwiches from her green satchel. "I brought us lunch!" She cheered happily, with a beaming face. "Let's go up those stairs and have a little picnic before we move on!"

"Okay~!" Responded Touko with a smile herself. "Let me just get my Pokémon healed up and ill meet you up there!" With that, she took off towards the pokécenter with Joltik in her arms; leaving the two of them by themselves.

"…Her pokemon got hurt??"

"yeah, she battled a trainer a few minutes ago…"

"Who??"

"Some weirdo…"

At the top of the stairs the three of them climbed, not only was there a little house, but also a great view of the next route!  The house they sat beside had a window open so they could hear the soft music of a piano as someone inside practiced on it. It was a nice tune, and it brought out the best in them as they ate and conversed in idle chit chat. Eating one of the many sandwiches Bianca got, Touko got to her feet and leaned on the railing to look out into the distance. There was a soft breeze and it blew some of her thick hair to one side as she took in the beautiful sight, taking another bite of the food in her hand.

"It's a nice day today…"

"You betcha it is!"

"Perfect for our journey…"

Touko nodded to them both with her eyes closed, feeling the soft breeze on her somewhat wan face. Taking a deep breath she broke off a piece of the bread and lifted it up to the Joltik on her hat. It gladly took it for a nibble. Opening her eyes she smiled and glanced down to a little hill that seemed ot be connected to Route 2. On that hill though…she didn't see what she expected to see. Like grass moving in the soft breeze, or trees swaying to the sounds of nature's music. No…What she saw was someone she hadn't expected to see ever again.

It was N.

With the Purrlion in his arms, he turned to a tree and knelt down in the shade to set it down in the grass.  Touko leaned over the railing a little and couldn't help but whisper over her shoulder. 'Cheren…there's that N guy from earlier…" Upon hearing this, Cheren leaned over a little to look through the railing's bars. Indeed it was N. but this time, he was not alone. As soon as the Purrlion was set down, 3 other Pokémon emerged from the nearby trees and stepped towards them.

One was a tiny black fox Pokémon with red tips in its fur. Another was a flying type similar to a Zubat possibly. Though it was fluffier, and it's wings were smaller. The last one was a large monkey like Pokémon. It had a big smile and big arms but seemed to be incredibly gentle when picking up the Purrlion from where N had set it. They both noticed him say something and sit down; only to have the small fox like Pokémon jump into his lap. When he began to pet it, the peaceful silence was disrupted by the quirky blonde beside them.

"OH! Who is that?!"

Touko and Cheren almost glared at her as she leaned against the railing too. "He is so cute!" She then said loudly as if the two of them weren't even close by. Now they were glaring at her. "When did you meet him? Was he the trainer you fought, Touko?? Did he win or what? What's his name again? M? Oh OH! did he say where he came from?? How did he approach you guys—"

"BIANCA!"

"Yes…?"

Bianca seemed bewildered as she looked their way. Both of them on the other hand looked angry and incredibly annoyed at the same time. "His name is N." Touko began; keeping the same exact expression on her face. "We met him like…20 minutes ago…" Bianca nodded; oblivious of their calm rage. "Yes he was the trainer I fought. No he did not win, I did. And no he didn't say where he was from—"

"Also, he approached us like a creeper." Cheren added; pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose. Bianca looked at him and nodded again with a little smile while Touko on the other hand, glanced his way with her expression finally something other than a glare. Something that said "are-you-stupid".

"He's not a creeper,"

Cheren looked at her calmly. "Of course he is. Did you see how he approached you?"

Touko only shook her head and sat back down to be at the same level as them. "He didn't approach me." She reminded him; staring into his eyes. "He actually walked up to Joltik…then he spoke to me." Cheren gave her his own "are-you-stupid" look to get her back, as if he didn't believe her. As if he thought she was wrong. "I'm serious! I think he could actually talk to Joltik!"

"…You're insane."

"Am not!"

"Your right," Cheren said; getting to his feet. "You're not insane…" He held up his hand and pointed over the railing and towards N and his Pokémon. "He's insane."

Touko stood up and put her foot down. "No he's not!"

"…How do you know?"

Cheren fought back calmly; causing her to mouth to snap shut. He leaned towards her a little. "You only met him once." He then told her. "For all we know he could be as insane as they get." He then turned to walk away and down the steps. "Dangerous too….so…I want you to stay away from him."

Touko had nothing to say to him. She was lost of words as she watched him disappear back down below. Bianca on the other hand sat quiet and watched the whole thing happen. "Hmm…" With a small frown, her green eyes fell upon N and his group of Pokémon down below and then back up to Touko. "I don't think he's insane…"

"You didn't meet him though…" Touko sighed while her friend got to her feet. "In a way…he was a bit odd…" She then said' following down the stairs lazily. "But..I don't think he was totally off his bonkers, you know?"

Bianca nodded. "Just one of those guys huh.." She then said; receiving a nod from the brunette. Bianca pursed her lips. "Don't listen to Cheren. He's just being a meany." Touko smiled a little. "He's not your Trainer, so you shouldn't obey his commands like a Pokémon! If you come across that N guy again don't walk away!" She threw a fist up into the air as Touko watched her with a small but happy grin. "Kick his ass in another battle if you have to!"

"I'd rather fight Cheren right now~!"

Both of them wailed out in a loud but quick fit of giggles. Mostly because they had caught up with him at the gates to the next route. "Ready…?" He asked softly as they came closer. Touko and Bianca both nodded to him with determination in their eyes. "Our next stop is Striaton City right…?" Again the two girls nodded with excitement.

With a very small chuckle, Cheren shook his head at them and continued through the gate; Bianca and Touko not far behind. Inside a woman dressed in blue looked up from her papers. "O-Oh!" She gasped out; startling them. All three looked as her papers seemed to fly and she got to her feet so she could lean over her desk, using a hand to fix her lopsided hat. "Trainers!" She called out as she waved her hands around. "C-Come here!"

Curious, the 3 trainers stepped over to her blue desk to listen. Cheren picked up some of her papers and handed them back while she neatly tucked some hair behind her ear. "Yes…?" He then asked her; the 3 of them now standing side by side before her.

She smiled; taking the papers. "Thank you..." She then said as she set them down. "I just wanted to warn you about the Pidoves…"

"Pidoves?"

The woman nodded. "Yes, they normally don't fly in this area." She then started. "And they normally are quite peaceful." She shrugged; pointing towards the other side of the gate. "Just…watch your belongings out there. They have been taking Trainer's things the past couple weeks…"

Touko, Bianca and Cheren all nodded and started for the exit. "Thanks for the warning!" Touko called over her shoulder; walking though the large sliding glass doors. The cool breeze blew their hair back when they found themselves outside. It felt great to have such a wind break through the heat. "Pidoves are flying type right…?"

"Yes," Answered Cheren; looking around the area to spot the very thing. "I don't see any though…"

"Oh! There, there!" Bianca shouted; jumping up and down to get their attention. The other two looked over to see her pointing at a grey Pokémon sitting in a tree cleaning its wings with its short beak. "Is that it?? Is that a Pidove?!"

As a response, Cheren pulled out his Pokédex and held it up. "Pidove," It rang once its picture flashed on the screen, "A normal, flying type Pokémon. During the winter they like to get as far away from snow as possible. They also get confused easily when being ordered by a trainer."

It fell silent, so Cheren shut the Pokédex and put it back in his pocket. "Well, we got our thief." He confirmed as Bianca cooed over its "cuteness". He rolled his eyes at her and looked at Touko. "Do you wanna catch it?"

As soon as he asked that, Touko's vision was blocked by Joltik's tiny face. Its little head tilted and it made noises as if it were talking to her. Her own head tilted and she narrowed her eyes. "…What?" She breathed in question; gaining the attention of both her friends. Even the Pidove seemed to look over  to them. "Cheren…did you say something…else…?"

"No…?"

"I thought…you said something else…"

"Other than asking if you wanted to catch it?"

"Yeah…"

"Nope. I didn't say anything else then."

Slowly, Touko looked his way and narrowed her eyes. "Really…?" She then asked; receiving a nod from him. "…Must have been the wind then.." Her blue eyes shifted away from him and fell on the tree again, but something was different; the Pidove was gone. "Wha—where did it go?"

Bianca turned to scan the area as Cheren looked up and around as well. "It flew away!" She yelped while the other two began to search more. "Where do you think it we—"

"JOLTIK!"

Bianca and Cheren whipped their heads around to look at Touko who at the moment was running off somewhere deeper into the route. There were two things about that scene that made them chase after her. She was chasing a Pidove herself. And the Pidove had Joltik in its claws.
